About BTEC Level 3

BTEC Level 3 courses have rather confusing names.  Here is our simple guide to what they mean.

The main difference between BTEC and AS/A level courses is the method of assessment.  All BTEC courses are entirely assessed through a portfolio of your coursework. AS/A level courses are mostly assessed through exams.  Some may have a coursework element – see the individual course descriptions.  Both A/AS levels and BTEC Level 3 courses are entry routes to university.
