LSFC excels in Final of Debating Matters

On Monday 7th March, the College competed in the Regional Final of Debating Matters at Cancer Research UK in Cambridge. The team had won the qualifying round which had taken place here at the College in October.

Maahwish and Imre won the first debate on Fair Trade and Jade and Karran won their debate on Great Apes and rights. This qualified us for the final on the day.  Tom and Sarah were runners–up to Uppingham School in a debate on Wikileaks. This was a great achievement in what is a very challenging competition. The students won £250 pounds of books/resources vouchers from Hodder Education along with some individual prizes. Maahwish won a prize for ‘commendable performance’ and Jade was singled out for her efforts on the day.   Tony Gilland, director of the competition said: ‘You can go back to your college with your heads held high.  You did extremely well, the level of debate was very good and I expect great things from you in next year’s competition’.

The team  are a credit to the College.  The completion included Uppingham School, Anglo European School, Spalding Grammar School, Roundwood Park School and Norwich High School for Girls.
