Black History Month 2011

In October of each year it has become an annually recognised tradition that the students of Luton Sixth Form College acknowledge and celebrate ‘Black History Month’.

Throughout the month there are a range of activities highlighting the cultural backgrounds, achievements and contributions of Britain’s black population to their communities.   The highlight of the month is the BHM Show, co-ordinated by former student Precious Mahaga.  The theme on this occasion was ‘Winston & Abiola’ a story based, very loosely, on William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It showcased a wealth of talent from the college community including singers, dancers, poets and actors.

Again, as in 2009, all the proceeds from ticket sales (over £300) were donated to our Uganda appeal.

DVD copies of the ‘BHM SHOW’ are still available for sale in the Westside college shop at £3.00, all proceeds going to the UGANDA APPEAL.
