All students can stand as candidates and elections for the Council are held in September. Active Student Council members gain valuable experience and material for their CV and develop important skills. For further information contact the Student Welfare Advisor who is based in room SW004 in the Westside.
Your Rights
All students contribute to the way in which the Student Council's budget is spent. If you are a student it is in your interests.
Student Opinion
The College will ask you for your views through questionnaires and course panels later in the year. You can put forward ideas through your Student Governor who sits on the College Corporation. If you want to give your opinion about anything in the College, contact a member of staff or a Student Council member and they will make sure it goes to the right person.
Tutor Group Representatives
During September, every tutor will elect 2 students from their tutor group. Once elected, Tutor Group Reps will:
- Put themselves forward for a place on the Student Council
- Put their name forward as a student ambassador
- Represent students in their tutor group to the Student Council
- Liaise with the student council; pass on information to students
- Encourage students in tutor group to put their opinions forward – represent the Learner Voice
- Feed back the views of tutor group members to the Student Council
- Attend ONE full meeting per term of all the tutor group reps
- Attend a question and answer session with the senior managers at the College
