Performing and Production Arts Industry Skills (Level 2 Extended Cert/Certificate)

Entry Requirements

Student must have a minimum of three grade 3’s and one grade 2 to be considered for all level 2 courses.

The Course

This course, is for students who are looking to study Performing and/or production arts as part of a one-year course alongside other areas of study. If taken as part of a programme of study that includes other BTECs or GCSEs.  Students have the option to either study a two GCSE (Ext Cert) or One GCSE (Cert) equivalent version of the course.

Students do not need to have any previous experience in the subject area although any previous experience is useful. 

The course allows for students to develop both their practical performance and production skills through a series of units offering skills development in a range of areas of the Performing Arts relating to both Drama and Music.

Course Activities

Assessment take place through a combination of practical assessments and written coursework.  Lessons will cover skills development in a range of areas of the performing arts leading to assessment through rehearsal, performance and coursework.

Career and Progression Opportunities

This course can help you move on to a Level 3 course in a similar subject. You’ll also learn useful skills that are valued in other areas like creative media, music, or business. It can also help you get an apprenticeship in a related area.

1: Skills Development for Performing Arts

Through experimenting with various styles and techniques, you will be introduced to the technical skills needed to work in the industry. You will learn about the creative process and appreciate the value of learning from mistakes to progress and improve.

3: Creative Interpretation

In this unit, you will have the opportunity to apply the skills and techniques that you have developed to respond to a brief. You will learn to collaborate with others and initiate ideas, as well as responding to the ideas of others.

4: Audition and Portfolio Process

In this unit, you will learn how to find employment opportunities relevant to your defined role in the performing arts industry and develop the expectations and skills needed to secure employment in the performing arts industry.

5: Preparing for a Performing Arts Production

In this unit, you will plan and take part in the preparation for a performing arts production. You will learn and develop the skills needed for your role as either a performer or as part of the production crew.

6: Performing Arts Production

In this unit, you will apply your performance or technical skills in a performance. You will explore how to prepare effectively for the performance ‘on the day’ and use feedback from open dress or preview performances to ensure your performance is as successful as possible.
